Having your carpets cleaned will make your home feel, look, and smell fresh and clean. Here, you'll find a few tips that can help you undo some blemishes and keep your carpet looking great between cleanings.

Immediately After the Cleaning

Immediately after the carpet has been cleaned, it's your job to keep people and pets from walking on it until it has fully dried. If the wet carpet is walked on before it has dried, any dirt that was left deep in the fibers or in the padding below the carpeting could begin to wick up to the surface. If you have to walk through the room, try to stay on carpeting that isn't high-trafficked – it will have less dirt built up in the deep fibers, so you'll have less of a chance of causing wicking stains.

Set some fans out to circulate the air and dry the carpeting faster. If the air is humid, you may even want to get a dehumidifier to run for a day or so.

Once The Carpet Is Dry

Now that the carpet is dry, you'll need to reposition your furniture, but before you do, you'll want to get the old divots out of the carpeting from where the feet of the furniture was. To do this, you'll need ice cubes, a plastic bag, and a spoon.

Place the bag of ice on the divot and let it sit for 10 minutes or so. Use the spoon to fluff the carpeting until the divot disappears. If it is being stubborn, reapply the ice again and let it sit a little longer.

Wrap the feet of the furniture with aluminum foil for a few days to ensure that the carpet has completely dried in the deepest fibers. This will prevent the feet from leaving marks in the carpeting if it hasn't dried fully.

When Stains Happen

Get yourself a spray bottle and fill it with one part white vinegar and two parts water. Keep a roll of quality paper towels handy, and the minute you see a spot, get the bottle and the paper towels and get to work.

Start by spraying the paper towels and then blotting the spot. If that doesn't work, spray the spot and then blot it dry with the paper towels. You want to remove the spot entirely, but you don't want to oversaturate the carpet.

Your carpet can stay looking great for quite a while – even if you do have kids and pets sharing your home. Hopefully, the tips above will help you keep it looking better longer.
