Don't DIY This: When You Really Need To Call A Pest Control Company
Most homeowners are capable of doing some basic pest control on their own. They can close holes to prevent mice from coming into the home. They can put out ant baits to get rid of the occasional kitchen invaders. However, it is often a mistake to do too much pest control on your own. Doing so often just wastes time; you eventually end up calling the pest control company anyway, and the infestation is even worse by then.
So, when do you really need to call a pest control company rather than DIY-ing it? Here are three such circumstances.
1. You think you might have bed bugs.
Bed bugs are really tough to get rid of. They can hide in small areas you forget to treat and then come back with a vengeance. They are also resistant to a lot of insecticides that you can buy at the local home improvement store. You should really call a pest control company if you suspect you have bed bugs. They can get rid of them a lot faster by using heat treatment rather than insecticides. (Heat kills the bed bugs even if they're hiding.) They will also know which areas of your home need to be treated and which can be left alone.
2. You think you may have wood-eating insects.
Termites and carpenter ants are a whole other level of household pests. They don't just annoy or bite you; they are destroying your home's structure from the inside, out. You can't afford to waste time when dealing with either of these insects. A pest control company can promptly determine which species is bothering you, and then they can use the right combination of baits, sprays, and traps to get rid of these bugs ASAP.
3. You've tried getting rid of ants or cockroaches, but they're still around.
Ants and roaches are two pests that you often can get rid of with DIY approaches — but only if you act fast. If you wait too long to treat them, the population of insects will be really large, and you'll have a tough time getting rid of the bugs without locating their nest and treating it directly. If you've put out baits and traps and maybe used a few sprays, but the ants or roaches are still around, don't waste any more time before calling the pest control company.
Sometimes DIY approaches can get rid of pests, but other times, the responsible thing to do is to call a pest control company.
